Electronica is a blanket term that is used to describe electronic music in general, but also can be used more specifically to refer to a particular style of electronic. In the latter sense, Electronica can be considered very synthesizer-focused (and often classically analogue) music that uses complex melodies and structures but is not dance oriented nor breakbeat oriented. This type of definition is unfortunately more “what it isn’t” rather than a “what it is,” but, as a genre, Electronica often fulfills this role - if the music is obviously electronic but doesn’t easily fit into any other genre, it may be called Electronica. electronicscene.com
